Hi Kieran, just a quick question if you don't mind me asking, how much roughly did the build cost in total? I'm thinking of doing a b16 swap on my mini too but am in the same situation with apprentice wages. Would love to do the conversion though.

Hmm a difficult question that is often asked but not very well answered.

A very top level breakdown would be:

1. Subframe, shafts etc - £1200

2. Engine - £650

3. Rear End - £850

Plus all the other things I've forgotten about and you're looking about £3-3.5k for the conversion.

Oh and incase anyone cares I still own and drive the mini, it's currently SORN'd awaiting a respray, done a few tweaks to it since we last spoke but it's not worth posting about

Kieran

Really nice, just read the thread and was gunna ask how it was and if you still had it but seems you do ?

I'm stuck between going b16/b18 or forced induction micra lump, I can get a 1.3 micra donor car for like £300, so much cheaper than a honda lump, price of the honda subframe from allspeed makes me feel queasy too ?? I'd attempt to make my own micra frame but it seems a bigger job on the hondas a lot more stuff to work around haha

Just read all 22 pages and I have to congratulate you Kieran on all the impressive work you have put into the mini! You must be over the moon with how all your hard work has paid off.

I'm currently in the late stages of research on doing a VTEC conversion myself so was wondering if you still have any links or documents that might be helpful (other than your amazing build log) to help fellow enthusiasts out?

There's a lot of info on www.16vminiclub.com in the Honda section as well as the project threads. I'd recommend it!

A lot has changed in life but the mini still remains.

For those who may be interested, I haven't done a huge amount with the car since my last post. Basically just driven it and tidied up some electrics. I intend on putting a roof rack on it and some better headlights but that's the only things. It's spent the last 18 months in storage, I dragged it out on the weekend, gave it a polish and thought I'd put an updated picture on here.

Hope everyone is well

Kieran

The Mini hasn't aged. It is well maintained since it has a good interior. Would you mind telling me the brand of your wheels? I am currently browsing the options from 4WheelOnline for a new set.

They are Starmag alloys, sorry that's the only details I know about them as they came with the car when I bought it

If you know someone with a pipe bender I'd say it wouldn't be too hard to replicate but yes I do agree roof rack prices have got abit much

Tell me about it.

I paid nearly 500 for my recommended one with Import tax and shipping to Italy.
