Hi Guys,

I am doing an oil change on my 1994 35LE' (1275)...
I am using Castrol 10/40 Part Synthetic, but I have gone through 5 ltrs so far and there is no sign of oil on the dip stick,

Does a mini require more than 5 ltrs of engine oil or am i missing something??

any advice would be appreciated,

Cheers

It takes just under 5l and 20/50 oil is best, as it protects your gearbox.. You pouring it in the right place ? Is the car on a steep slope ?

5 litres will fill it nicely.
20w50 mineral oil is best. That thin semi-synthetic is not good for either the manufacturing tolerances in the old A-series engine not the gearbox which itself needs a thicker oil.
Best advice is to go and buy 5 litres of either Castrol Classic 20w50 or Halfords 20w50 both of which are ideal for the Classic Mini engine.

1) check the sump plug is in
2) check your drive way isnt covered in oil
3) check your dip stick is actually long enough to reach the oil (probs has a min/max marking on it)
4) if all of these are fine and you have poured 5L into the top of the engine through the rocker cover and not into the coolant system or similar, you may need to turn the ignition on for a few moments to pump the oil through
