Right well just got home with my mini took it out for a quick spin and coming up a fairly steep hill it just died out on me, I was just dropping it into 2nd and as i brought the clutch up it died, anyway managed with the help of mum to push it round so it was facing downhill, waited a little while for a mate who was on his way to help, and in that time got it running again without too much problem, and on the way home i put my foot down it a little bit and it died out on me again so its fuel starvation but whats at fault?
It is a 998 A+ with a standard fuel pump, fuel filter between pump and carb, a hs4 carb with standard airbox, standard exhaust and fanimold.

pushed it round the corner to my house, turned the key and fired back up again so it runs alright apart from on hills ect.

Thanks in advance Alex

also as another issue, swapping speedo drives out today, my old one the gear had disconnected from the shaft and it just span on the shaft so has rounded off inside, the outside there is damage so its like it got caught on something, put in a replacement drive and my speedo still dosnt work so im guessing its the same fault again, any ideas there? :)

This could have many different causes, it can be either a fuel supply problem or an ignition problem, a faulty condenser can cause similar issues.

I think its defo fuel related, first time it died i checked all the plugs and they were bone dry, and that was after cranking it a couple of times for a few seconds,

I am going to clean the carb float and pipes tomorrow and reset the float height as it may just be a little low on fuel in the float chamber and when i put my foot down a bit to go up hill ect it runs dry? but i suspect my fuel pump but the oil dosnt smell like fuel and its not leaking at all so

Plenty fuel in the tank? Dip it with a stick - don't just rely on the gauge. And get rid of the filter........it's not necessary.

Will do, the filter is one of those metal canister type ones was on it when i bought it, and will dip the tank tomorrow, would look like a right wally if it was empty, however i put a tenner in the other day when it was fairly low and have only driven a few miles since.

I had a Citroën ax that would die on a certain 2 mile incline when there was still a bit of fuel in the tank, used to chuck an extra gallon in and it would be fine! A tenner of fuel isn't a lot these days! Especially if there wasn't much in to start with!

Just a thought......
If your vent tube is blocked, crimped or similar this may cause your problem.
If the fuel tank can't vent...the fuel will stop flowing to the carb.

Right well spent an hour going over it today, thus far I have taken the fuel filter off as its just another restriction, opened my carb float bowl, was half full with petrol, float moved fine without any problems, fuel lines were full of fuel, defo fuel in tank, dipped a stick in and it came up about 5 inches, fuel breather pipe was clear, cleaned the dizzy cap contacts and rotor arm, adjusted the mixture as it was running slightly rich and shes running very smoothly now, cant take her on a test drive yet as i havent passed my test and mums busy so wont be till weds after my test( if i pass) that i can, so will let you know if thats done the trick and if not what else to check :)

First thought was pump but the mech ones tend to work or not work at all apparently
