Ello ello everyone,

I've been having some trouble with my handbrake lately, It will engage but not hold the car on a hill.
So far I have jacked up the car and adjusted the rear drums and adjusted the handbrake but it hasnt changed.

Could someone post up instructions incase I have done it wrong?

The brakes seem fine driving.

The mini in question is a:
1997 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3

Any help is appreciated

No it is not, mine will hold the car with only 1 working.
If all is working the mini handbrake is good

give the shoes inside the drums a rub with some sand paper to take off the shiny edge and don't forget to give inside of the actual drum face a rub as well, then readjust and hey presto!

Mine is purple, but I have been told that's normal

Also worth checking if it's working on both sides and the cable and quadrants are all correct

Yeah check shoes- might just be worn in which case new ones are needed. I wouldn't risk keeping the old ones if they're covered in crap, only 10 quid for a new pair anyway. Also when you put new shoes on make sure you smother everything else in high temp grease (seriously I learnt the hard way) :/ best of luck

as charlie says... quadrants seized on one side... or the handbrake levers inside the drive have got stuck on one side.. so: you will put hand brake on, and it will only be working on one side...

jack up the back of the car.. with the handbrake on: try spinning the wheels...
