having sold my mini the other week, i needed some new wheels to roll around in, didnt want another mini just yet so looked for something of similar size, and something as simple, and found a 1984 mk1 metro 1.3L, in blue, 3 doors and extremely tidy with only minimal rust which is confined to the door frames which is only surface! ;) my plans for it? undecided, possibly a 1.8 vvc engine from a MG ZR, lower it a little, maybe some banded steels, subtle street sleeper that will surprise a few people at the lights :P

anyway a couple of pics

If you're going for the VVC because it fits in a Metro easier don't forget the only reason it fits into a Metro easier is because Mk3 and 4's run on K-Series running gear. Fitting a 1.8K into an Austin Metro is no different to fitting one into a Mini, or going Vaux or Honda. It's still the best choice though, lots of power for cheap monies.

Also: WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE... It's better. :-)

if you get the later style subframe it makes the job a lot easier. Watson s were doing a conversion on one the other week. the inner arches are different too so they need removing.

nice choice in car matey

i think metros are becoming much more collectable nowadays. now that most have been squashed or butchered for mini conversions.

lovely looking little metro, they are definitely becoming more collectable and aren't as cheap as they used to be... i got a 1986 metro that had failed it's MOT about 10 years ago when i was 11 years old to drive about the fields and it cost me the grand total of £5.. don't think that would be possible now

Insurance is well cheap, £100 fully comp for the year ;) I think I'm gonna ditch the vvc idea, n possibly go down the super charger route and also convert it to run 10" banded steels, saw a metro running 6x10 wellers and it looked the dogs!

Shame, was looking forward to seeing something different to a tuned ancient engine

That's like, WELL nice.

Reminds me quite a lot of a polo breadvan though, with the wheels and the fitment. But daymm, it's good looking

I still got my on a vvc though on eBay ;) so not phasing out that idea just yet :D or I might look into other modern engine choices, there's a breakers near my moms that handles a lot of crash test cars, might need to take my tape measure next time and see if there's anything suitable!
