i work at Halfords... and i can mix the paint up easily, and get it for cost price so is it sensible to spray the car with them? or should i put some money into a tent and dragging my mates compressor out, and buying a correct spray gun?
Cheers

You can get a decent finish with spray cans if you're a master with them and have the right conditions, but it can prove to be a pig. I wouldn't bother even attempting it with Halfrauds cans that's for sure.

If you prep properly and are good with a rattle can (the trick is to put it on just to the point of running, which is tricky. If you do lots of thin coats the finish is rubbish) you can get very good results, it's not something I'd do for anything other than small repairs though.

if you prep it well , take your time and are as careful as you would be with a proper spray gun setup theres no reason it shouldnt be as good. in theory , still need a tent/ garrage or wood and plastic :)

my dads uncle Ronnie used to build mk1 rally minis for my dad, himself and to order. he painted his with a rattle can so if the paint work got damaged after a rally he could "touch it up" at the side of the road. ahaha.

You would get a much better finish using a roller if you cant use a gun.

Ive jsut ordered a compressor to do some spraying because im fed up of paying £6 for a rattle can when I can get 1L for £10 and have a 1:1 ration with thinners. Either way you will need a tent etc.
I was planning on buildign a frame out of PVC piping and using plastic sheeting, so once i'm done i can tke it down and erect it agian if i need to.

our mini was sprayed with rattle cans, and it was every shade of red under the sun!

I would think it would be easier, quicker and a better finish using a proper spray gun with compressor

I'm rattle can'ing to get back on the road for the summer (wings, front panel and rear panel) then it'll be a spray gun job in a few years come rebuild time.
