Took the mini out the other day for the first time in heavy rain and it was running like a *******.
Guess I have answered my own question but wondered how many people have left it off and whether it does make a difference?

My dizzy isnt the electronic type so it looks like I better refit the guard.
Just need to find the brackets!
I removed it when I did the engine overhaul. Thought engine looked so nice would leave it off :)

I never use one, even on rally cars. I just coat the distributor cap with silicone grease and then spray with ignition sealer and never have a problem, even when driving through deep fords or on wet & muddy forest tracks. Went to Hunstanton today in the p*****g rain and had no problems at all.
which sealer do u use pls?

The splash guard is a problem if you need fast access to the plugs or leads.
You can use a 'Marigold' glove with the ends of the fingers and thumb cut off. Fit one lead through each new hole and use tie-wraps to secure it and waterproof it. The only problem is if it gets any damp inside it's useless and difficult to dry out.

I have used an aircraft control cable grease called 'Aeroshell'. However, a good friend of mine just uses Vaseline and that seems to work well. After applying liberally just spray the entire cap with 'Ignition Sealer'.

I liked your idea until I saw reference to a rubber glove! I'll refit my cover in the morning.

Smear vaseline on the mating surface between dizzy body and dizzy cap, that works.
