I built and dyno’d this myself while working at KAD, fitted it to my Mini to use at my wedding in 2010, but I have only done a total of around 500 miles since building this engine in August 2010- the rest of the time it has sat either in the car in the KAD workshop or safely locked up at home.
The specs are; (please note: brand new= new when built in 2010!)
-135bhp at 8,000rpm, 101ftlbs at 6,000rpm
-KAD 16valve small valve head- with ‘road’ level porting
-L1/BD3 cams (fast road/track day profile)
-Full belt drive system
-Cometic MLS head gasket
-MED prepped block, race for 1 season then re-honed by KAD with all steel main caps including a 4 bolt centre.
-73.5mm Cosworth raised crown pistons machined with valve clearances
-Balanced A+ con rods
-Brand new A+ crank
-Brand new pair of twin Weber 40 DCOE’s with low profile metal mesh type filters
-Brand new 123Ignition electronic distributor with Aldon Flamethrower coil and silicone leads
-New water pump, oil pump, gaskets and seals
-Arrow super light verto type flywheel with Cooper S back plate, Alcon 5 finger sintered type clutch plate and orange AP diaphragm
-4 Speed standard helical type gearbox, reconditioned with new baulk rings and bearings and a twin cross pin diff with 3.4 final drive
I built this engine for longevity so limited the bhp keeping the port size small and the CR down (to 10.5:1). If you gave it larger ports, a head skim and a re-jet should see another 10bhp (these cams usually make 145+bhp with a fully ported head).
This also has an usual cam cover- I powder coated it half way through machining to get the silver engraved look on the top.
This engine has been used as the ‘show piece’ on several KAD stands and on the Piper Cams stand at the AutoSport International show. The cylinder head also came from the same batch as Bill Richards and Neal Masters championship winning cylinder heads!!!
I will consider a good, full working, large bore (1275/1293/1330/1380) engine in part exchange- WHY?
I will post up a photo of what it currently looks like asap- its no longer quite as shiny as the photo above as it has been used, but still looks beautiful!
Price- £6000 as above or £6250 to include 4-2-1 stainles piper exhaust maifold, top and bottom rad hoses, brand new alternator with KAD pulley (to clear the cam belt), KAD viscous crank damper (with ignition teeth if you want to switch to electronic ignition) and a KAD alloy water pump pulley.
This is a bit of a bargain as you would be looking at £9,000+ for this set-up from KAD
Please note: this engine is half in/half out the car at the moment and the car has no MoT- so unfortunately test drives are not possible and it is sold as seen, but KAD know the engine, so by all means give them a call!
