Thats another one then. The quality of mini parts in general really has got worse over the last few years. I only ever used genuine Rover balljoints.

you would have thought with the money that is in minis and is still being spent the product would be getting better.

I haven't logged in in ages, i take it its happened allot ? what the hell could it be? as far as i can tell the parts original from 88.

There was one go just a few weeks ago (mini danny's) and theres been probably 7 or 8 on here since I joined, and Ive heard of several more through talking to other owners etc, never heard of anything else like it happen as often with any other make of car :( My guess is its either cheap, badly made ball joints, or incorrect installation. I dnot know about you guys, but for the last year Ive checked once a week for play in the ball joints and bearings up front, and once a month for the back, just for (a bit of) piece of mind.

Exact thing happened to me a year or two ago, no other damage either. My minis off the road just now but it'll definitley be getting some rover balljoints before it goes back on the road! Didn't realise it was so common.

I wonder if anyone bothers to grease (along with the top and rear arms) and check their minis balljoints every 3k or 3months anymore?

Not good. :( Glad your O.K.

I am rather concerned by this recent spate of ball joint failures. This is serious and incredibly dangerous. I think it is a priority that we as a community get to the bottom of whats going on. As far i'm aware. The classic mini has never had a reputation for snapping ball joints. This is supposed to be a very, very rare occurrence and it is happening far too often. We need to sort it.

Just out of intrest, where are they, wheres the best place to get some? Ive had mine for a year and im having to replace tie rods and bushes cause of the previous owner, is it worth doing these as well or am i better off getting it done at a garage?

from most failures i've seen it's either been from incorrectly fitted parts, lack of servicing or laziness with oh I'll do them next week etc, etc.

At least everyone in the car is ok and no major damage was done, could have been a lot worse.

But a 24 year old ball joint? And not once replaced after an MOT? Thats a very long time to go.

Yet if an mot tester dare fail one, the offended owner posts on here that the tester is not doing his job and finding work for the garage. Advice of greasing it to get it through is given, instead of just sorting it out
