Right, After much mucking about with multimeter and wiring diagrams, i Have managed to get the wee machine turning again!
by connecting the White/pink wire to the White/red wire that both used to be for the alarm i have got it to work and nothing appears to have went bang.
So from that is it possible to get the conlusion that if you have a factory alarm that the wire colour change happens in the multiplug for the alarm?
Sprocket, if your reading this, can you confirm or deny?
thanks for the help so far, but now just need to get it running, what could be wrong now? timing out? crank shaft sensor?
I tried some easy start in the inlet manifold, but all that happened there was it popped and ignited back out the manifold,
should i take the rocker cover off and get someone to turn it and see what happens? or compression test?
sorry for all the questions and this always being near the top of the section, still on a massive learning curve!

Not sorted, but making progress, was away in spain for a week and as the weather has been good, have been working a lot.
have almost got the clutch sorted (just need help to bleed it). after i get it in gear the plan is to find top dead centre and check all the timing marks.
i am very suspicious that it may have been tampered with prior to me collecting it. discovered last night that the clevis pin between the clutch pedal and the master cylinder piston was missing! no apparent explanation, and there was nothing like that mentioned when i did the deal.
so wouldnt be surprised if the distributer shaft had been turned 180 degrees or something.
