Hello I am Juan Jose from Viña del Mar, Chile and I have a 1981 Austin Mini city car with a 1.3 mpi automatic engine taken from a 1994 Japanese rover mini Mayfair.

Can anyone help me with a problem that i have with Reverse gear that is not engaging.
Forward gears appear to be selecting ok.
I haven’t changed the oil filter or the oil (20/50)
When I select reverse the car starts reversing but with diminishes power, and when I hit the throttle no power transfer occurs.

Best wishes,
Juan Jose Galdamez Riquelme

Are you sure the oil level is correct, and that you have the correct oil in it? I'd certainly try changing the oil and fillter first, then have a look to see if the adjustment on the control cables is correct.

Otherwise it sounds like your reverse clutch may have packed in Juan, if it has,it'll be an engine/gearbox out job, but if I were you I'd take the car to an Automatic gearbox specialist for diagnosis/repair.

top and reverse clutch could be at fault. when you drive forwards and get into top gear does the car rev but not seem to gain speed when you floor it?
