My absolute hate is Black & Silver plates on Post 73 cars!! Actually despite the leaglities I don't mind it so much on 74-82 registrations, but on anything later than that it doesn't look retro, period or cool it just looks ridiculous!! >_<

May I ask why on cars after 82? As after Dec 72 its illegal to have these plates, but I think they look good on any retro mini :)

Because, I imagine he means anything post '82 has a prefix number plate, (age related letter at the start instead of the end)

What like the car burst into flames or it was in a house which was on fire?

Yeah the car caught fire. IIRC, They saw smoke and got out. Burst into flames and put them out. Went to do something came back and it had caught light again. When it was finally put out it was basically just a shell. Like it or not, it's a real shame to see a mini go like that. At least all of the family were ok. This was a while ago now - it was a feature car in one of the mags and the burning of the car was also in there.

Owh dear! Sad story I must admit, although it really is not to my taste at all, the car looks like £000's have been invested in it and would be a real shame to watch it go up in flames. As you said at least everyone was safe, that's what is important at the end of the day.

Oh I agree, it's not to my taste either. A chopped
mini like that looks all wrong. But like has also been said, the Sprints are good. There is a guy in France (either the original guy that did it or one of his team?) will still do you a Sprint conversion.

I just love the "Rat Look", but it has to be a good solid car that's made to look a bit tired and beaten up though

That's not rat look >_< a proper 'rat look' car has patina, the body has naturally aged like that but is solid underneath. A car covered in paint stripper and brightly coloured stickers that's been made to look beaten up is 'prat look', it's also a great waste.

I also hate people that modify their car just to be 'different', 'individual' or to follow a crowd. Modify your car so you like the way it looks whether people have done it before or not, that way you won't give a toss when someone says they don't like what you've done to your car. And that right there. Some people won't like what you've done, they are still allowed to voice their opinion on it if you post it on a publicly viewable internet site, or location in the world, it doesn't make them bad people, or 'cyber bullies'.

I was just reading through your Baby Mini rebuild project Oli and noticed you haven't updated it in 2 years. How did you get on?

It was put on, errr, temporary hold for a while. Little bits happening behind the scenes but I've put all my time and money into the Viva over the years and then a family. Trying to get it moving a little bit more now, maybe an update soon, maybe not.

Totally agree, people are too easy to criticize someones hard work, when at times, like you've so clearly pointed out, don't have the basic skills to do something simple......

Valiant effort, but wrong! unfortunatly it was a practise run, and yes so is the complete one as shown in the thread, it was to see if it could be done using connecting blocks, like in the picture. I will be cutting out of 6mm ply and making yet another one. Stay tuned if you wish to see the finished product and not just the prototype ;D

Don't hate until you see the finished product...
