despite the burning through in two patches the finish i got was ok but not as good as using the following ...00g and that scouring foam pad....get the same results using a 400g (ish) sanding block the dimples just melt away!
right Im trying to cut corners and do things too quick....I must be patient. So I cleaned the roof up and put another coat of black on slightly thicker as needed to cover the patches where the polisher sanded through.
Thats it other than a slight bit of sanding and body prepping on the bottom of the door and rear quater panel.
I may end up re doing my whole roof, it should if I take my time cut down getting rid of the tiny tiny dimples (not orange peel like) just tiny imperfections ...maybe im being a bit of a perfectionist ! either way I do not get the dimples using my thinned gloss orange so it may be the black paint i am using and it is not fit for purpose....(remember I bought non drip and thin it 50/50) dont get any dimples in the orange at 50/50
Either way will finsih off the roof prob nxt week now as up north for few days so should give the last coat a good curing time.
Orange is still looking good the only blemishes being dust particles but hey such is life !
Also did a bit of body work on the herald and tried to sort my running issues out.....still cant find my haynes for IT !!!
For those who have been working on their minis today hope all went well !
Cheers

That and like you I find myself flatting back far to much, pushing for a perfect finish.
Also tried a bunch of different scourers but couldn't get a good match, long slow 400grit it is...
Only a door, A panel and wing to go. Then a fresh thin coat of colour - assuming It's not dark

If It's any consolation, I had to remove near enough a whole wing of paint plus 1 patch on pretty much every panel due to the paint not adhering in places, think it was moisture and over enthusiastic sanding.
2nd coat just went on, now to paint the door jams and sand the the boot while it dries.

Really annoying when you cut thorugh paint though as not sure how it will cover up etc......no short cuts for me next time I will listen to what others have done ! Also when using wire wool the mess it leaves behind is monumental !!!
I bought my paint the old fashioned way....easier to ask for discount lol !! tight Geordie again lol

Back to 50:50 mix or there abouts, well squeezed roller and lots of rolling the paint about.
Worked well, at least it seemed to have after 4 hours. I decided not to chance putting another coat on and left it for the night, got another coat on most of the black parts too so the glass can go back in once that's dry (and I buy a windscreen...).
It's pretty apparent where the paint had to be cleaned off but I'm hoping / guessing / praying that as the layers build that should blend away nicely.

Had the same issues on my boot lid as was not prepped properly and had a few large pinholes where the paint had not taken. Just sanded it back and started again.
Really impressed witht he work done buddy

Yep, was done in the gazebo. It's holding up okay but the driveway is pretty sheltered anyway, mostly it's keeping the leaves off.
Tomorrow I'll give it light brush over with the scourer or high grit just to take the dust off and give it another go, last night I was ready to strip it all off and go buy some 2k. Given I've got all the equipment the only reason I didn't spray it initially was not having somewhere to do it but I have the gazebo now.
Trouble is, I hate giving up on something so want to see how this turns out. My only concern is the durability of it, but time will tell on that one.
Oh, that reminds me I found the thread with the coach builder referencing Dulux last night.

One issue I see coming up is having roller painted (happy I can do that to a reasonable standard) is getting a similar finish on areas where the roller will not reach.

I was going to just cut in around the edges, seams etc but then figured it's only really the scuttle and rear quarters with any amount of surface.

Yeah, like that worked!
Coat number 3 on now, it was actually nice to flat back - not a proper flatting, from some more reading on roller threads it seems that bug & run removal is more than enough between coats and then something a bit more careful every 3rd (ish).
So 30mins to take off the dust and a single run, then a whip round with the roller which is also getting faster too.
The patches I had to sand back to primer are darkening nicely so that's reassuring and the first coat on the bonnet went on too.
Not bad for a couple of hours. Suppose I should start putting the rest of the car back together now...
