It is entirely possible that early a+ engine had the earlier crank. Remember a+ blocks started appearing from about '77 onwards.

We started seeing A+ Engines here late 79, they only had the 1505 cranks and the mains were the same type as the Pre-A+.

Mains bearings changed mid '84 to to the now common plain bearing bottom half centre tang shell.
