First of all do you think a Fiat 500 1.4 Sport Engine would fit in a Mini Engine bay?

Here's a picture of one on EBay (Sorry if you can't see link, I'm posting on mobile :/)

http://item.mobilewe...nid=06642854390

How hard would it be to convert over as it has ECU etc? Would electrics need to be changed? Or matter of putting it in, fire up ECU and it's working? It can't be that easy surly? Lol.

Regards,

Generally, not only would you need the engine, but also the gearbox, and the wiring loom and ecu etc from the donor. Then you've got to figure out how to put it in...

IMO, good project if you have the time and money to do it, but would be pretty much a one off as I can't see many fiat 500 engines becoming available...

If you're looking for an engine conversion, start off by looking at core units which are readily available, which is why the micra conversion has started to take off, especially overseas where they are a dime a dozen.

Considering the cost and the effort for the conversion, you can fit better engines than a fiat one..

Step one with any engine conversion that hasn't been done before would be to get a tape measure and measure the mini engine bay and the width, height and length of the fiat engine and transmission.

There are already tried and tested engines that will get you 100 bhp in a mini however it would be one of a kind.

The modern ECU's of cars look for all the electrics so if something is missing it may start throwing up fault codes. You would also probably need to find a way to sort out the immobiliser and any other security devices.
