Hi everyone,

i'm in the market for some interesting wheels to go on my pickup but i want some that will go over a cooper s brake setup without needing arches. What sort of offset am i going to be needing? i'm looking at a few sets of gemini 5x10" which fit the bill or maybe kn turbo wheels but i cant find any info on them or any decent pictures without arches. i dont want to just buy some and chance it, but at the moment i am tempted.

thanks
Chris

There's very few mini wheels which will fit over cooper S brakes and still sit within the arch... In fact I can only think of three... The original Cooper S wheel ( and subsequent replicas ) and the 10" rostyle, both of which are steel... The only other one would be an original minilite, or reproduction.

The required offset to keep the wheel in the arch is dependant upon the width of the wheel, the cooper S rims are 4.5" and I believe have an offset of +25 to +30...

To get a 5" wheel under the arch the offset would need to somewhere between +31 and +36.

I'm not a suspension expert, dave aka icklemini may be the person to ask, but my belief is that the ideal is for intersection of line through the centre of the tyre contact patch and the king pin angle should be as near to ground level as possible.

i surcame to temptation and bought some kn turbo 10x5" wheels. According to my measurements they are +20 so i expect to need group 2 of simular arches which wasnt the original plan but they are very nice (and rare) wheels :-)

thanks

I can't remember what offset they are but you can just get away with Mini Special wheels on S discs.

The photo angle isn't perfect but that doesn't look even close to "getting away with it".

I have 4.5" Minilife alloys and S discs that are just about OK with 165/70/10 Yokohama A048s.

Haha oh believe me I've seen a lot more sticking out than that and people 'getting away with it'

I had some 10" Weller white steels on my Clubman that did'nt protrude.... and I even have a vague recollection that they fitted over "normal" disc brakes, but I may be mistaken. It was the 80's...

The 5" x 10" BWA alloys just about sit under the body with no arch extensions.

I have a set of Cosmic MkIII. The offset is enough to keep the tyres inside without arches
I also had a set of Oscam wheels...5x10....also inside without arches....( I may find a pic shortley )

found it

So what's the general opinion? Are Minis better without arch extensions?
Of course arch-less ones will be quicker as they are aerodynamically cleaner, and the wings will be less rust-prone.

correction.
I missed the bit about disc brakes....sorry.
The pic I posted above is drum brakes.
The 5x10 Cosmic MkIII wheels do however fit over S discs within the wheel arch ( may just fit one tonight to confirm )

i have 7.5" discs on my clubvan & 5 x 10 wolfrace slot mags. the fronts stick out about 1/2" out from the arches but when i asked the chap at the mot station he looked at them & said you dont need arches to pass the mot. great.

Hello all,

reviving a quite old topic, I am looking if someone can give me a clue on the wheels I plan to install one day when my car will be done...

It's a set of Leyland Trophy wheels:

3PfidQTl.jpg

There are 4,5*10", have an offset of +10mm.

My current wheels (original steelies 3,5*10") have an offset of +24mm.

I plan to run front S disc brakes so basically I will have a wider track of 1" (25,4mm) each side just because of the disc setting.

With the smaller offset I expect the outer face of the rim to be +7mm ((24-10)/2) outwards the car

This will make an overall difference of theoretically (7+25,4) 32,4mm.

Will the wheels fit without arches in the wings?

If needed I can get a set of Group 2 arches but I would rather stay original if possible.

Best regards

Gilles
