Well if you aren't experienced make sure you get it right, it's easy to get it a little bit wrong and cars can go to the scrapyard very easily as a result of poor electrical design. Fires in wiring spread like you wouldn't believe.

So on my list to do is:

- Get a RVC Tacho
- Wire it up accordingly and correct
- And make it safe

And i know what you mean by fires spreading rapidly, my mate is restoring a morris minor pick up, he put the loom in, started it up, it then melted and caught fire. :ohno:

Thanks for the help

I will let you know how it goes

like this (not like i put earlier):

RVC 1275GT Tacho
Male spade connector - 12V IGN Source (white wire)
Small screw nearest male bullet connector (top right in photo) - Earth (usually via screw into PCB)
Male bullet - Connection to coil -ve terminal (usually white/black wire)

For future reference - ignore the wire colour shown in the photo above as it is incorrect!!!!

Excellent topic this!

As a result of reading it I realised that my RVI tacho (it is a 1973 1275GT) wouldn't work with my electronic ignition...

Luckily I managed to find a brand new RVC on fleabay and am just in the process of wiring it all up....

In the box, there was a piece of paper with the following instructions: -

Remove the Voltage Stabiliser which is situated on the lower part of the instrument panel just to the right of the centre.

The three terminals to which the stabiliser is connected are now revealed. remove the screw from the right hand terminal, put the screw through the connection on the end of the wire supplied and replace the screw.

Replace the Voltage Stabiliser in its original position.

Fit the other end of the wire supplied to the Tachometer earth terminal which is the male blade connector on the plastic case.

Is there a good reason for taking the earth from the stabiliser as described...?

I'm not sure I want to disturb it if it is not absolutely necessary....

Hi,

This may sound like a silly question, but are the Magnolia dials RVI or RVC?

I can't see it written on any part of it..

Thanks =]

By the looks of it someone has changed the graphics. If you look at the rear you should be able to tell what it is from the posts above.
