I had the Lumention Magnetronic, mine broke aswell. Had it replaced under warranty, then that one failed too. So I bought the Britpart version, then that broke!
Frankly I think i have just been unlucky as most people with the britpart kits have no had a problem, but personally i am going to stick with points, if it ain't broke...

I ran a Lumenition Magnetronic for a few years. I transferred it from one Mini to another. It was very good, but there are cheaper alternatives now.

Back when the British car started using electronic ignition systems to satisfy the American regulations in 1974, the Lucas units became renowned for failure. Very few original units would make it 50000 miles. The only easily available and reliable replacement unit in America at that time was the Lumenition Optronic. I installed one on my 63 Land Rover and it's still there to this day operating without fail. It was a 1000% improvement over the points whereas the car would actually start with a nearly flat battery, whilst with points I would often need to use the hand crank after running the battery down trying to start the bugger.
This of course has nothing to do with Lumenition Magnetronic. It only implies that Lumenition isn't that bad. It's just that Optronic units are really not much more expensive than Britpart, and I will attest to their reliability.
