Hi everyone I have an 83 mini sprite which had 1275gt instruments.

The centre clock has a red light (only ever see it on ignition) and an orange light (oil pressure).

They work just fine - but I was wondering if there should be any kind of warning light when the hi beams are used?

Thanks in advance. Jack

It's telling you that you've got your full beam on, so you don't dazzle other drivers. I'm still not convinced that mini lights are bright enough to dazzle anyone though :whistling:.

Think you misinterpreted my question... I'll reword it lol if I have wrote it confusing:

There is no warning light on the dash when I use my hi beams - should there be?

Yes there should, it will be light up blue once you've switched on your full beam. It's at the top of the fuel and temp gauge if i remeber correctly. Also an MOT failure if it fails to work.

Yes, there should be a blue main beam warning light on the dash. It's a C & U requirement.

The high beam indicator is at the top of the middle "pod" (fuel and temp gauge one)
I know when i had a custom dash in my car before, the angle meant it couldn't be seen when on full beam. Worth checking that it isn't as simple as that?
When not illuminated, where the filter is blue, it is quite hard to spot.
Sometimes can be as sinple as slight corrosion on the cirtcuit board of the gauges shere the bulb attaches.

Fixed it - only a bit of corrosion on the terminals.

Thanks to all!

Not blanks, well the speedo one isn't but the tacho one might be. The speedo one is purple or pink on a lot of cars. Not used for anything in UK spec Minis though, probably for other territories or other models. Other countries have different rules, Italy for example requires a sidelights warning lamp, Canada and Japan a seatbelt warning lamp etc. I don't know if these particular positions were ever used for anything though.

Thanks!. Would be cool to find a use for them...

door/boot open warning would be cool! - Passengers always seem to be too gentle shutting them!.

Could turn the one on the tacho into a shift light :L

The possibility are be endless!.
