I agree, best thing is to learn to drive defensively, remember your small and vunerable but manoverable so your best being alert. I learnt to drive in Texas where you always feel small and vunerable.

Hey just think of it this way with all the new cars on the road with these amazing crumple zones we don't need them as we can 'borrow' theirs in a crash! lol

yeah modern cars are softer in places and as the mini is light it doesnt take much impact for it to move away from the other car.

Mini was never actually Ncap tested. Ncap costs a lot of money and it only came about in late '97 / early '98 with most of the first round of testing done in early '98. At this point Mini was already listed for deletion so the test was never done. However it was crash tested independantly by Rover and others several times over it's life with the last round being done with the introduction of air bags and intrusion beams.

If you look around for long enough then you can find the results of these tests as above, BMH may have more of these test results available if you contact them. The only thing is that the results are measured differently so they aren't comparable with Ncap results but Mini generally does better than other small cars like Metros, Novas and Fiestas as it has lots of compound curves in the bodywork which absorb energy well as they are hard to deform whereas the other small cars of the time were pretty flat in the panels.

Hey guys here is a full crash test of the mini they did at 3 different speeds :/ It's kind of worrying when they show the inside afterwards :/ But this was done in the early 60s so no NCAP rating
