Have you tried turning it off and on again?

These are absolutely beautiful.

I'll be very interested to see what the price point comes in at as I think I pretty much need a set!

The original (post '76) switches are called "Delta" and are available in a big range of functions. Carbuildersolutions are one stockest.

Haven't tried, but wouldn't be surprised if the can by adapted, pry a brake test version apart to see how it returns.

I've been planning this with Arduino too actually. Was thinking of making the buttons have secret modes when pressed for X amount of time, be it turn on the fuel pump to act as an immobiliser.

The way you've done it is bloody lovely, the contraption i've sorta made looks a bit pants in comparison!

Eg if you had a brake test switch with the heated rear 'cover' on it, you can push the switch once and the heated screen would stay on for 10 mins (and lit up)

Make sense?
Q

That's exactly what mine's been like for about the last 15 years! The timer is also killed if you press it again or if the ignition is turned off.

I did electronics at school (17 years ago, eek) so its going to be a steep learning curve for me!

My goal would be to make a box that can be plugged into the standard wiring of any mini (obviously different connecters depending on year) as I HATE those blue connectors the piggyback the wires

I did consider something similar that would require the buttons pressed in the correct order within a pre defined time scale, a sort of combination lock that would then turn on/off the power to whatever you had chosen, ie. coil, solenoid or fuel pump in your case.

I did all my electronics 22 years ago, so don't let that put you off.

If you decide to modify the brake test switches you also need to be mindful of the voltage you want run the bulbs inside the switches as Arduino will only supply 5V. You could use the 5V to switch a transistor that will supply the original bulb with a 12V supply. I wish you all the best with your goal.

I had thought about trying to use the original loom plugs but it makes the whole enclose size needed to house everything much larger. Also I need to break into the column switches which would mean trying to squeeze a few extra plugs into what is already a tight space, and secondly I don't want to add any more wires into the loom.

I share your dislike for Scothloks.

Feel free to PM me if you think I can help you in any way.

Marc

Yeah, i agree with that. I've never done anything taught with regards to electronics, but i'm rocking raspberry pi's and Spark Cores which is Arduino + more, i never had a clue but there are alot of guides out there to help you.

The one thing i really want is a home made hidden radio.

I'm totally bowled over too!  Let me know when you get these into production.

Polish Marc, why a PWM control for the heater? Is that for temperature control or fan speed?
I know PWM is used for servo control, so I guess that could control a butterfly valve or something for temperature. Presumably you wouldn't drive the fan motor of an AC signal,
(Not saying you're wrong, just fancy doing something similar and need to get my head round some concepts.) (And then learn to program in something other than hex!)

+1 for me too! i was thinking just replacing the original switches with aircraft style toggle switches... these are way cooler!

I'm using a square wave DC signal to change the duty cycle of a heater control valve to control the flow of hot water to the heater. You could use a servo valve. From memory most radio controlled servos use a pulse width of between 1 and 2 milliseconds at a frequency of 30Hz, but don't quote me on that! Nothing to do with AC speed control which would be thyristor based.

That just went way over my head. Once complete, I think I may have to just dabble in some of this magic you'll be selling!

I'll be keeping a eye on this project and for product,
All has to do with the price

But I would be happy with single color light for the switches, one color per switch so I don't have to think about what switch I'm turning on at night time while I'm driving
