Swan neck is terrible - and a 40 DCOE is too small for a 1275 anyway - you need a 45 DCOE - and deep pockets to pay for the heavy fuel consumption! HIF 44 is THE way to go.

are you suggesting 15mpg is heavy fuel consumption?

Twin SU's, Webers, etc, used to be fitted to improve performance on the best available manifold and combined with really good cam, big-valve head and so on. Now it seems that some people fit them for looks and noise. Each to their own, but what a waste of potentially good carburation by fitting poorly designed manifolds (swan neck) just to get a different noise.

Surly it depends on how you drive if you have got a lead foot then that when you would get poor fuel consumption and I was only going to use a swan neck so I don't need to cut the bulkhead but its fine with me cutting the bulk section out to fit a box

And why would it be better to get a 45 weber

beause they dont allow enough air through, its a larger choke carb, which is better suited to your engine size.

Spot on

Our 8.4 v10 Viper averages 11- 15 MPG and that has 600bhp.

So 15 mpg from a 100 bhp mini is bad in my book.

its seems that the costs/performance outweigh the benefit compared to an SU. If the only reason for fitting one is for the noise, get an HIF44 with an ITG foam filter. You get alot of induction noise, plus its easier, cheaper, and more beneficial in terms of performance for your spec to have.

You made a thread asking for people opinions...

And thats what you got... opinions?

There's no right or wrong, I could stick a weber on an 850cc and say it sounds awesome, but an SU would be much better. A lot of very knowledgeable people commented saying that a HIF44 would be a lot better for your spec, but you still seemed set on using a weber, so if you want to, do it...

But bare in mind the advice that's been given in this thread

I know I asked for opinions but its annoying all the way through the thread different people saying different things iv spoken to a performance specialist who said it would be okay will just need a bit of tinkering and that's somone who tunes minis everyday as a job then you get some people saying nope it won't work and that's just them that's fitted maybe like 2 webers in there life

Literally every single post on this thread from people has been extremely good advice, no-ones been saying different things either, majority of the people recommended a HIF 44, because a Weber has poor fuel economy and doesn't work too well unless you have a very high lift/duration cam. Also someone pointed out that a 40 dcoe would not flow enough and you'd need a 45 dcoe.

Don't make out like this thread has been 'annoying' because there's been some top advice here... but listen to you 'performance specialist' if you wish.

I agree, weber 40 would be fine, can give good results if set up properly.

Lots of people use them.
