if im right, im pretty sure that they are "slinging" points which were used at the factory, most people which remove them dont put them back on but theyre fairly easy to make.

althought i just found these on mini spares

They are not jacking points and shouldn't be used to jack up the car. Sadly many minis have the characteristic dented floor from jacking on those points.

There are jacking points on the sills but are sometimes dodgy due to rust. The subframes are your safest bet for jacking. If you need to get the subframe off then support the weight of the shell on a decent bit of timber across the floor. Hope this helps.

I remember going around the Mini body production line in Longbridge about 20 years ago and these were definitely being used as locations on the production line.
Our Mini was being MoT'd a couple of years ago and the man tried to jack it up on these - I objected and explained what they were, which he accepted although he said the VOSA trainer told him they were jacking points. You only have to look at them to see they are not structurally reinforced enough to be jacking points. As Tamworthbay says sadly many minis have the characteristic dented floor from jacking on those points. Those dents are the beginning of rusty floors and a lot of welding. It makes me mad!!!!
If you've taken them off I would forget about it, why add a rust trap.
Sorry to rant, one of my beefs.

As his car is a Van it wouldn't have the saloon jacking points would it? It would have included a jack to jack it up via the subframes I think.

Yes, the vans had a jack which operated on the subframes. I had one and it worked well. No reason at all why it would not fit all Minis.

I suspect that they will turn up at autojumbles from time to time. Worth acquiring one.

Would one of these work on the subframe?

The jack that came with a van had a vertical screw operated by a ratchet. On the top was an 'L' shape that went neatly under the rear subframe and there was an adapter plate you put on the top to give the correct angle for jacking the front cross member of the front subframe. Obviously it worked just as well on a saloon as on the van.

Obviously there have been different types of jack, any of which should be ok. The Ebay one might not adjust down far enough to go under a car with a flat tyre, and certainly not if the car was lowered. JVA10L describes one which is different to what I had on a MK 1 van.

I had one with a horizintal screw (should have been a ratchet handle, like a socket ratchet, but female, however I found something similar which would do the job). The lifting arm had an L shaped piece on the end, which could be rotated to lie against the edge of the subframe. It did not need much clearance to get in under the car.

It was painted red. I can't find one on Google.
