i bought one of these...http://www.machinema...le-grinder-230v a few years ago and it's been fantastic.
have used it a few times for pretty much a full day and it's been fine.

personally i wouldn't bother with cheapy ones, draper, silverline, lidl etc, they are made of chocolate inside.

ive never had any troubles with my draper one fella its a 900w one n its lasted for cutting bricks metal sanding and wire brushing metal aswell

I use a wire knot brush for taking down paint on panels. However keep away from edges. Otherwise they no longer are edges.

Linishing welds. grinding disk. 40 grit flap disk then the final polish with a 120 or so grit disk.

i use the bosch one too its a excelent grinder, i got it as the one at work was bosch too and that gets used daily with no trouble

I've bought b&qs own brand one 650watt, 2 year guarantee , it's been brilliant . I'd recommend the polycarbide discs for removing paint/rust etc. For cutting go for the slitting discs rather than the cutting discs for a neater but controllable cut( but they do wear down more than the standard cutting discs). The flap grinding wheels are excellent for handling welds and getting them neat. Well that's my opinion lol
