Hello all
after a long break from the mini scene I have returned with a 1987 mini Auto
Bought the car today as a project to teach my fiance to drive in
Spent 2 hours today getting the lil monster running after checking, compression, spark, fuel and tappet clearance was iginition timming stopping it going
then drove it back to my flat 5 miles down the road
The mini has done 63k and is very original is fitting with full SPI interior and has a HIF 44 Carb
PLans are kill the rust (6 big patches) redo the floor pan
Modernise the eletrics, redo the interior, respray in Pink
Redo the supsension with new cones, KYB + shocks and poly bushed
and overhaul the mechanics

update with pics tomorrow

SO far removed all the insulation from the bulk head and found a big hole
Fitted some bosch super 4's
Stripped the engine bay and most of the loom
undone all the master cylinder
and drained the fluids

Tomorrow plans are to remove the interior and possibly the doors / glass
depends on the time I have

firstly took the paint off to reveal the extent of the rust, then used wire brush and rust removal pad to remove rust, then cleaned with throttle cleaner, then krusted, then rinsed, then wiped, then re carb cleanered, compressed air and then a really good coasting of Zinc weld thru primer and tonight I am on a late and have a friend staying over so might spend and hour in the garage this morning to tidy up and sweep out the garage and see if the petrol i spilt 2 litres has dried yet LOL

main reason is I have taken the rust off and converted it back with a reducing agent, By using Zinc it acts as a sacrifical layer so if the paint gets chip it will react and not the metal :)
also with mini pannels being soo thin will make welding alot easier, and less splatter

lol had a mini about a year and a half ago and it spent most of its life getting modified in one way or another the back end has been stripped and the tank removed since the last photos and im abotu to go and spend a bit of time assessing how to remove the wing and keep it intacked without a spot weld removal drill bit
