I have a Knightsbridge Mini withe a Honda VTEC engine. It has a 9 gallon left side fuel tank. I saw a Mini Cooper S with dual fuel caps. I understand that model has a right hand tank as well.

I'd like to do the same thing to my Mini. Can anyone help me out on exactly what I need to do and buy to make this modification?

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, the tank on the later cars was 7.5 gallon (Uk gallons)

The twin tanks fitted to the Cooper S I think were 5 gallon each.

You could fit a R/H tank with your existing one but it's an expensive way of getting extra fuel capacity for a road car. Also will kill what little boot space you have.

If it's just the look you are after, then opinions will always vary but........ http://www.minispare...pid=33029=

Good luck whatever you decide.

There is a chap offering new aftermarket right hand tanks on e-Bay. About £100.00 which is a great deal less than OEM ones. Well made and the extra 5 gallon capacity could come in useful.

WOW ! A RH tank for 100 GBP? I hope he is approached by suppliers over here to sell them to North America. That's a great price!

Wow, you guys weren't kidding.....a right hand tank is a small fortune. Add in the fittings needed or if you want an alloy one. That adds up to lots and lots of cash for 5.5 gallons. Almost as much as the gas you put in it.

I might do it anyway. I want to deseam my Mini and that is possibly the most dangerous and expensive things you can do. I've seen a couple of deseamed Mini's where all seams were removed and welded over perfectly. Even the rain gutters. It completely changes the look of the car. My wife is against as she says that the seams are part of the character of the car.

If i deseam it, I'm going to do it myself. I still need a lot of practice before I even think about taking my MIG welder to it.

It is your car so enjoy customizing it any way you want. However, if your car is a Mk1 or Mk2 I hope you reconsider deseaming.

Indeed the first couple of hundred original right hand tanks fitted as an optional extra were made from converted standard tanks because the tooling wasn't ready. Personally if I was getting one at the moment I'd get the plastic one being made in Australia.

That does look like the way to go. It certainly is much less than the alloy tank.
