I know I've been quiet on this thread, but I have been working on the car. It's just that there's not been much to see! Filler takes so long to get right when you want a car to be as good as this.

So here's the filler:

Then I stripped out the remaining bulkhead components, chopped out the radiator cowling, and painted the rest of the engine bay:

Next I spent about a day fitting the Rover 200 rear seatbelts. I'm putting a full guide to this in the CER Technical section, but here's the finished article:

Then I sprayed 2k primer all over the car.

Today I've flatted the whole car back, taking out a lot of imperfections, and finding a few areas that needed a bit more filler. Then put another coat of primer on top, ready to flat it all again. It's not far off being ready for a bit of topcoat at last!

Well I've had chance to at least paint the inside. The floor is brush-painted in Rustoleum, but the rest is sprayed in 2-pack topcoat - and the colours are so close you can hardly tell the difference! Second coat went on tonight.

That is one sexy colour! It's slightly darker in the flesh.

I have played the parts fairy and visited my dad bearing bags of shiny bits from Huddersfield Spares...

Fast road coil spring set, ProTech aluminium billet shocks, HiLos, knuckle joints, adjustable rear camber brackets, adjustable bottom arms (to go with the adjustable tie rods in yesterday's parts boxes), poly bushes, Wood & Picket style arches, Custom Consoles dash, and Tex mirrors!

To quote dad: "I'd better get out there and do some more paintwork!"

Dad flatted & prepped the roof and got ready to spray.

The first coat usually takes more paint than you expect, so he mixed up a little more than he thought he needed...

Having sprayed it realised he had mixed up far to much paint! So thought "Sod it - spray it on the car."
And here it is!

Well although I got a couple more coats on, that was about how I left it looking on Christmas Eve. Since the new year the weather has not been good enough for painting - too cold and in particular too damp; even when I heat the garage I get condensation.
So I turned my attention to the subframe. Last weekend I cleared up the other end of the garage and cleaned off the subframe. I also found I needed to modify the subframe jig that I'd fabricated - Adam said it wasn't tall enough and when I started work I found he was right. So I welded in an extra 60mm and refabricated the front mounts.
Here's the subframe bolted into the jig:

Posted Image

First job was to weld in the support strut between the towers.

Posted Image

First cut is the deepest...

Posted Image

Then I fabricated up the new front bar, with a slight curve to match the Clubman front panel - this bar will be just below the bottom edge of the front panel. There are two sections of 6mm flat bar to bolt this to the front panel mountings.

Posted Image

To make room for the K-series driveshafts, the bottom front of the towers was cut away. The old bottom arm bolts will be discarded, new mounts welded in and a new shorter bolt fitted. Having welded two more sections of flat bar to the bottom face of the frame below the towers, just under the bottom arm mountings, I welded in the nearside bottom leg.

Which is as far as I got today. More to come...

Spent another hour in the garage after getting back from Bingley. Managed to get the other bottom leg done (I felt I'd left a job half-done!)

I'll get the top legs done next week.
