Hmm looks mighty rusty under there, I'd highly recommend getting a pair of full length floor pans from M-Machine.

We have a rather ridiculously long list of panels to get!
Some of the panels are alright but we're taking a "might aswell do it all" approach to this one!

I know the feeling, just waiting for my first order from m-machine I spent over a grand and Ive still got the full floor and front to buy.
Great work, keep it up I'll be watchin this one

Wow! How did you spend a grand without the floor & front end?

Fun today. Dad unbolted the rear bolts of the rear subframe, then realised would have to remove the handbrake cables from the front. Inside the car (through the windscreen!), as released the second of the cables the whole subframe just fell off! The front mounting points were just non-existent. Brother Adam's pickup has better heelboard ends and he's plating both of those!
Somebody had bolted the front mounts through a plated heelboard, no reinforcer, with a (metric) nut on the back while the sill was off. I'd never have got the subby off if the heelboard & sill were sound.

Plus there are several layers of sill on the offside.

The whole floor needs replacing - well two halves anyway, the tunnel at least is sound! Adam is pricing up a custom-fabbed crossmember, and we'll need heelboard ends because there's nothing to work with.

Having cleaned it up, the boot floor at least is better than we thought. The front corners have been plated, but they are at least sound, so I'll leave them.

So, floor panels to price up now!

It always looks bad at the beginnig, took me 6 months to build up the courage to atack my rust !! Make sure to measure loads when fitting the new heelboard and tack in place with the subframe in place to make sure it lines up.

Good luck and plenty of pics

Only hair dye!

And he's not paying for all of it, I'd feel awful if I did! Plus all I do is work and goto uni so don't really spend much on myself usually. (Admit the whole recent hair thing is a bit more of a one off than usual!)

A good £480 on panels, tank and bought myself a mini top on sale at £4 yes! Hahaha!

Trouble is, the car has been sat around our garden for 10 years. It's a miracle it's not worse. If I'd done it when I did the front end it wouldn't have been too bad. But at least now it will be done properly.

That's true, how many students can afford to spend £600 on panels in a month? Proud of you babe.

It's going to be one of the most solid estates around!

I'm just finishing a Clubby saloon for Holly's little sis, while Holly's bro is restoring a pickup in his garage. A true Mini family!

I'm in a similar situation to your Dad... my 18 year old daughter said she wanted to restore a Mini and I've ended up doing all the work hehehe We live near Bedford too! I wouldn't even contemplate working on that rust until I'd had the shell blasted. We got ours back from the blaster a couple of weeks ago but thankfully it's pretty sound and only needs the usual wings, bonnet, A panels, rear valance, sills and front floor halves, so not too bad for a 1976 car.

Good luck with it, race ya!

Paul.
