I've seen a few pics of mini's with a van grille and quite like the look of it. I've never seen one 'in the flesh' so I was wondering how easy it would be to fit. Would it be a straight swap for my existing grille or is it a bit more complex than that? The car I'm thinking of fitting it to is an '88 Mayfair with an external bonnet release.

Edit: Oh yeah, look left, just remembered what my profile pic is :)

As originally produced the grilles on vans and pick-up were not removeable and are part of a one-piece pressing. To fit a van grille will require a complete new front panel to be welded on, hopefully without damaging the wing flanges.
There have been some conversions where a van grill has been cut from a van front panel with additional material left on the grill so that the edge can be overlapped onto the car front panel with self-tapping screws.
The 'solid' front panel makes working on the front of the engine much more difficult.

Or you could do as has been done on this van, cut the grille from a van front panel and then fix it on with grille buttons.

I fitted one to my '79 850.
Bought a panel that basically just replaced the grille.
Had to drill some holes to mount it but simple job to do.
