It didn't come with instructions, we have had it running once, batteries now on charge to try again this week. Just concerned why this white and black wire has a feed, if I touch it on the coil, my oil pressure and battery light illuminate with ignition off..

As I said you need to trace that wire. Just physically inspect it and see what it is connected to. Start by looking at the back of the gauges as that's where it should go to. Without instructions I would treat that unit as an Accuspark, but then it could be anything really. I'd get in touch with the seller. If it turns out to be the Britpart unit then a ballasted supply will damage it.

It's a Lucas kit according to the seller

...as in kit for a Lucas dizzy. Pretty sure Lucas never made conversion kits, if they did they'd just be the parts from an electronic type 59 dizzy.
Just to be clear, this white/black sparks and lights up the warning lights when you earth it? You aren't running +ve volts up it from the coil instead?
Either way it must be connected to those circuits, which suggests a boo boo on the back of the instruments.
Does it only happen with the ignition switched on, guessing not or they should already be lit?
What happens to the lights if you unplug: the oil pressure switch, the alternator, both at the same time?
