Get yourself down to Halfords, for the price, they're as good as a britool, snap-off or equivalent.

Second hand I would get then check/recalibrated first, but that'll cost you probably more than a new one from Halfords.

Also be aware that you will need 2 or 3 torque wrenches to cover the range of torques used on a mini, from a 200ftlb one to do hub nuts down to a 8ftlb one to do all the small nuts and bolts.... the reason for this is that all torque wrenches are only calibrated from 20% of their maximum value.

Take a look and Norbar wrenches. I use my 1/2" and 3/8" wrenches daily and have them calibrated every 6 months. They have been spot on every time checked over the 5 or so years ive had them.

No matter if you buy new or second hand any torque wrench really needs checking before use with something like an Acratork meter.

This was something that was thrashed into us on our basic training as it is to easy to over torque or under torque. If you drop it, knock it etc this can throw it out so by using an Acratork you can take into consideration any discrepancies.

Unfortunately for your basic DIYer most will not have access to these types of tools for checking torque wrenches. However if you have a look on Youtube there are vids on there that can help you check your torque wrench.

We have got a Halfords torque wrench and its a nicely built bit of kit. You can pay some very silly money for torque wrenches. I have got one of their early ones and it did the job BUT it bit me once and i ended up shearing some con rod end cap bolts on a Pinto. Not chuffing happy.

Never ever leave a torque wrench wound up, always wind off the wrench to zero. You will damage it.
