Hi, I am a bit stuck!!!

I am a newbie to the 1275 power plants!

I have a 1275 engine in need of restoration, but I want to get some good naturally aspirated power out of it.

The code WFM1024 is printed on the front of the engine, I believe the exhaust side, is this an A+ or just an A?

I would really love to get this engine rebored to a 1380cc with a 84mm stroked crank, but have I got the right block for this, can anyone help, or through any better ideas in the frying pan???

Kind Regards
Rich :nuke:

Hi,
From personal experience my 1275 A+ block has WFM 1024 cast into the block at the front just below the top surface of the block the cylinder head sits in, so yes you have a 1275cc A+ block.
Cheers,
Steve.

Your best bet to find out whether the block can be used for the 1380 conversion is to take it to a Mini-friendly engineering shop. They will be able to look it over and determine whether it's usable or not.

What are you going to be using the engine for? It's worth making a few notes as to what you need from your engine as although a 1380 stroker is nice on paper, you may be able to get what you need from something less pricey ;D

Hi, I want an engine on one hand is good for the track and secondly reliable on the road.

Ideally the budget would be huge, but it has somewhat deminished over the last few months with the arrival of our new born son (first child).

Realistically I want something fun, with power and good torque... any ideas???

From what I have read on here 1380's arnt worth it, the differences between 1330 and 1380 are tiny and also 1330s can be re-lined and put back to 1275 and rebored, 1380s cannot so its basically meaning one more 1275 block is useless once the engine needs a rebore.

Thats all i really know on the subject :)

As above really,
As 1275 blocks become increasingly rare, its best to build an engine that can either be further rebored or at least be re-sleeved/linered to bring it back to the standard 1275cc capacity.
My engine has a stage 4 head, twin carbs and a Swiftune SW05 cam all on a +20 thou rebore (1293) and I'm expecting around 80-85bhp after running in and setting up on a rolling road.
It's nice to go as big with cubic capacity as you can but at the risk of scrapping yet another block when it wears out is going to push the 1275 block further towards extinction.
There's always turbo/super charging for extra oomph as this makes up for the lower cubic capacity.
Just my 2 penneth worth!!!!
Steve.

It costs a fortune to go to 1380 -for tiny extra gain. Just rebore to next size.

Couldnt have put it better having been there and done it and failed. I have 90 hp with a 1275 thats not highly modified so you can get all you need at 1330 or turbo it if you need alot as said

What is the best way to go Turbo???

Would I be best buying an old Metro Turbo Engine and overhauling that, or could I convert the 1275 that I already have, what are the steps???

Would I be able to bore the 1275 block out to a 1380 then buy a head which has been adjusted for a turbo and then strap a turbo on???
