I try these things so I can learn and so was just wondering if there is anything I should know? Or what parts are a necessity? What parts are advised to be changed etc? Ease of rebuild? Anything else.
My dad cleans his in a sonic cleaner...any good for the mini carb?
Any advice appreciated.

I got a 1990 standard 998cc carb (hs2?) and want to rebuild it, however have no prior knowledge, other than my dad rebuilds classic suzukis carbs for a living?

You can buy a 'rebuild kit' for about £30 that has all the parts you need...
I stripped mine down, cleaned thouroughly and then put it all back together with the new parts...
Didn't take long at all actually...
You might want to read Vizard before you re-assemble too - there are some good tips on improving flow in there.

Vizard? And where is this £30 kit? Minispares want £50 for some kit or other
I had a quick look on Somerford - The HS2 rebuild kit is ~£30 (although I can't get on their site now to re-check)...
Vizard is the 'Bible' for tuning the A-Series engine... Amazon have it here.

try looking on www.guess-works.com (tech info tab, then engine no.s on L/H side) for engine info
You need to find out what needle to fit as there were 2 around that time
ADE on a low compression and AAC on high compression.

If the manifold and exhaust are all standard then needles will be standard as mentioned above.
