I need to turn the ends down on the axle to fit the hub nuts and bearings as the axle is exactly the same diameter as the bearings/hub nuts, so wont go on easily, once i got the axle finished, i can mount the engine and sort the chain length, then finish the bodywork, then sort the front end steering out and electrics, then dismantle, Paint n reassemble! Sorted!

N thanks for the comments guys, ill try get some progress pics up soon ;)

can you not freeze spray the axle ends to ever so slightly reduce the diameter of the axle, and use a blow torch or heat gun to heat the bearing to slightly increase the internal diameter size in order to then get the bearing on, in a sense heat shrinking the bearing in place........ it wont come off thats for sure......

Not much of an update, more of a change of direction (again lol) after careful consideration regarding the weight issue, i wont be using the current floor/bulkhead/rollcage set up, although i am going to be using the current pick up rear wings/door/bonnet etc and start again on the chassis but make it out of 10mm box section, and use steel external panels, and use some thin alloy plate to make the floors etc now i just need to get some cheap 10mm box section from somewhere! :D

If anyone wants to swap a load of 10mm box section for the floor/bulk head/roll cage part (not the rear end or panels) let me know

PROGRESS!!!!!

Having decided that the original chassis was too heavy, i decided to start again and make a ladder frame chassis, which made a hell of a difference! it also gave me a new mounting point for the rear bearing block (which just so happens to be the center of a minimoto wheel!!) ;) i made the chassis out of 10mm box section, still have a few mods to do but the rear end set up is nearly complete! Here's pics...

1st look of the chassis with the pick up bed welded on

few modifications that i had to do to get the mini moto wheel centre to fit...

the black lines are to show where i needed to make some brackets so i have clearance for the chain sprocket

brackets made and test fitted, still need to weld them in...

how it will kinda look when set up

the rear axle looks bent (its not, its 2 seperate bars to show how it'll look lol)

will be off down the unit in a minute to get the chassis modifications welded into place, then i can focus on getting the front end built up, hell, i might even use part of the old chassis floor on this frame and have a hybrid :P

yeah and me lol its incase i feel a little hungry while thrashing it around the local playing field ;) ive since welded in the brackets, removed the excess so i have room for the rear sprocket to line up with the engine sprocket, just freezing the axle so it fits tight in the bearings :D the back end will then be built up!
