thats always an option i suppose! i think ill stick with initial idea though of an action man for the driver though, for more realistic looks

having decided i dont like how the inner wings sit, today ill cut them off and re-do them, i could do something with them, but to get them right id have to add more metal/weld which = more weight! so ill cut them off and make them slightly oversize so i can trim them down to required size once fitted, which will give me a better base for the windscreen pillars. will also make a start on the cab, mainly the A and B posts, and possibly the roof, i might even get some sills made up and welded on. but we shall see lol

well here it is, new inner wings and made a start on the door frames/door steps, but rain and sleet has stopped play today, wish my garage had a little extra room!



even tried the bonnet for size, fits nicely!

the inner wings still need trimming to size, especially at the door post, but am much happier with these ones

What hinges will you use for the doors and bonnet? Have you got any previous experiance in metalworking?

im gonna be making some mk1 external door hinges from some 10mm alloy plate i have, and the bonnet hinges will just be cut from some 1.2mm plate that ive used for most of this build!

the only previous metal work experience i have is from repairing my mini lol but ive always enjoyed building things, started with push bikes at the age of 6, then moved onto motor bikes but that didnt last as i got my hands on my 1st mini aged 13 :)

done a bit more now the rain has stopped, made up a front panel, its not 100% perfect, its pretty difficult panel to make, but it'll do, wont be to noticeable once its built up

im waiting on the rear wheels which i won on ebay, so i can get the wheel arches sorted on the rear, then the rear panels made up and welded on, then i can fit the engine and drive train before finishing the cab off, once thats done i can put all my efforts into the front suspension/steering set up! its a lot bigger than i thought it would be, 70s action man is way to small to be a driver, would look like an 8 yr old kid driving! condisering they are 12" tall, it kinda shows the scale! looks like toy stories woody will be taking the wheel ;) haha!
