yeah i have a 1/10th scale nitro car that im gonna rob of all its servo's/receiver gear, gonna hook up a servo to the accelerator cable ;) the front suspension is yet to be designed but i can use some off the shelf parts like the wheel hubs, but the wishbones will all be hand made :P

my bearings turned up today, between them they weigh in at just over 3lbs... too much weight! gonna have to look at alternative bearings as there cast iron, unless i can use my grinder and remove some material to lighten them! lol i didnt realise they would weigh so much, and i thought they would be a little smaller lol but never mind! im sure i can adapt and manage! also ordered another sprocket and some chain as cant find a sprocket to match the chain that i have, but thats no biggy!

having weighed up rear diff weight, due to the pillow block bearings etc i decided it would just be too heavy and ott for what ill be using the mini for, so the rear locked diff idea is put on the shelf in favour of a solid axle which means i can mount the engine centrally and have the rear sprocket to 1 side, ive made the engine mounts up and the engine is ready to fit, which means i can concerntrate on the rear axle, once thats done i can dry build up the rear end so i know its all straight/central/that it actually works! then ill be turning my attention to the front end, which will have suspension to absorb any bumps, as the front end will be a lot lighter than the rear, the 2 good shocks i got from dave1293gt will be pressed into service for this! pics to follow later!

If i were looking at a simple drive train, i would use a strimmer engine mounted in the engine bay and use the strimmer shaft and drive to the rear (like a prop shaft) and mate it to a 90 degree bevel box to drive a live axle or a diff to allow the car to turn correctly!

Just my 2p worth.

A mini moto engine! This thing should be rapid if a minimoto is powerful enough to do like 30mph with somebody sat on it!

if you read at the begining of the thread, that was my intention from the start, but i couldnt find a strimmer with the cable drive (prop shaft) low enough to run down the exhaust tunnel, they all seemed to be to central, meaning the mini would have to run on monster truck wheels to clear the bottom of the engine from hittin the ground. so i used what i had to hand, a mini moto ;) its really coming along now... pics included! :D -

engine mounts sorted, might tie the mounts together n then back to the heal board to strengthen, but we'll see!

made a start on the rear axle too..

the rear axle started life as a spike, the kind builders use to tape an area off! lol

ive also decided to centrally mount the engine and have a solid rear axle, after working out that to build the diff I wanted to use, it would add over 8lbs of weight, so ditched that in favor for a more simple set up, gonna sort some different bearings out, but at least it will be pretty fail proof! nice n sturdy! gonna look pretty sweet when its all built up, gonna have an opening bootlid so you can look in on the rear axle with its chain drive!

nah the sprocket is fine, im running an identical one up front, i would of gone for a bigger sprocket, but being so low to the ground, it would be grinding along the floor lol

if i can find some light weight pillow block bearings, then i might in future convert it to my home made diff with independant suspension type set up

Surely that means if the engine is doing 6000rpm so are the wheels. that's gonna be pretty crazy. i mean mini motos have anything from 6:1 up to 13:1.
