I have a problem with my alarm system in my 97 Cooper which I cant figure out, I never set the alarm now so its just the immobiliser thats not turning off. I get in the car and try and turn off the flashing red light with the key fob, I have to try from all directions inside the car down below, up, lower, close to dash before I find the right position before it turns off, I must look very strange making all these moves inside my car before the red light goes out. I have changed the battery in the key fob still no joy, the strange thing is one press of the fob will enable the alarm/immobiliser but it takes several presses to disable it.
Hope someone can help.

It may be the same problem I had with one of my fobs. It had just worn out. i had it reconditioned by Remote Key Ltd and it has worked ever since. See:

Just an update on the problem, I searched on the net for others with the same problem and tried all the suggestions, one thing I did not do was to press the key fob buttons for 10 secs before I put in the new battery which apparently discharges the fob completely,I then checked the battery was giving a full 3V which it was and assembled the key fob. Went back to the car tried it, and the car alarm armed itself, but this time I could not turn it off after about 100 times finally gave up convinced now that this was going to cost me money to fix. But tried again discharging the fob but this time putting in another brand new battery, out to the car, ialarmed the car and, then disarmed it!!!!! tried again and again and works like a dream each time. So what went wrong I have no idea but seems OK now.
