Weber 45 On A 3.5Inch Manifold

Does the ram pipe clear the bulkhead hole which is already there (and usually covered by the black plastic which leads to behind the dash)?
And finally what sort of performance are people getting on say a 1380 from a shorter manifold bearing in mind the poorer atomisation of the fuel than a longer manifold?
Would be great to see some pics (not many people go for a shorter manifold). I have a 1994 mini sprite.
Many thanks

i have a feeling you still have to cut out where it fits in the bulkhead
but maybe someone on here will know for certain
i have used both on a 1380 race car

I can tell you all this would not have gone on the head without the bulkhead mods and probably even with ram pipes only you would still have to cut the bulkhead.
My 1380 produced 85bhp at the flywheel on a well worn (virtually knackered block with a bog standard 12G940 head).
I would not use ram pipes with mesh as they will still allow dust and larger particles to be drawn into the engine and very quickly you may well live to regret it, get a good filter or at least some socks.

When i bought my mini 18 months ago it came with a Weber 40 dcoe on a 3.5" janspeed type offset inlet manifold and a big JR (k&n ) filter.
I can tell you all this would not have gone on the head without the bulkhead mods and probably even with ram pipes only you would still have to cut the bulkhead.

mingy - do you have any pics of your setup? Is it the weber that hits the bulkhead or the ram pipes on a short manifold which causes the necessary cutting?
85bhp is pretty respectable/good even on a knackered block. Whats sort of economy you getting?

This is my Weber 40 setup taken off the head as you see it,sorry it has,nt been on the car for a while as my head is being modded and i plan to run a SU HIF44 on a minispares inlet with an MED stub stack and ITG filter setup.
The Weber was only thirsty when you started to get to 5/6500rpm but it really growls when opened up.
I have put it in the for sale section as i cannot see me using it again and i would think it would be more use on another vehicle as stuck on a shelf!!.
But MPG wise it did,nt seem that bad if you were steady away.

to fit the weber in but restricts performance

cheers - looks pretty sweet. Could you please tell me what the total length is from the manifold to the end of the weber carb before the air filter? Also what is the length of the air filter on its own?
thanks

Anyway Notay the depth of the filter is 80mm but there are two Weber ram pipes inside which protrude 16mm past the end of the carb which are the shortest rams for the Weber.I have,nt measured the length of the carb but i will and get back to you asap.

1)length of Weber minus ram pipes = 120mm
2)length of inlet manifold = 90mm
3)Length of filter = 70mm
4) Width of Misab plate = 8mm ( plates fit between carb and manifold acting as flexible joint).
5) Total length of above = 288mm

Why are you switching over to the HIF44 from a weber?

I have got to know a few chaps that rally minis and they have all assured me that the way forward for a mostly roadgoing car is to use a HIF44 as the difference in both carbs performance is small, the weber produces more torque and BHP at a higher rev range but is thirsty, noisier and more complex to set up. The HIF is more economical for road use and only uses one needle which is easier to set up. The only additional part you need for the HIF is a choke cable which is no problem.
