I really never considered it but I saw some pictures of a Mini that was completely de-seamed. No rear seams, no front seams and all the rain gutter seams were removed. It was completely rounded and smooth.

I couldn't believe how great it looked. In my eyes it made it look far more modern. It really, really improved the manner, character and appearance of the entire car.

It's such a pity I will never do it. It's just too expensive and requires skills far beyond mine. The more I read about it, the more dangerous it sounded. Like done even a little wrong and the car springs apart like an unopened beans left on the stove.

Oh well....

I'm going to be doing this soon (with the help of a pro) to the bottom half of the car only as that is the only part of the seam you can get to the back of, then I'll lead load the join for extra strength.

with VOSA/DVLA catching up with more of these modified monocoques that have not been reregistered and tested there is likely to be more of them on ebay selling cheap

if your looking for a project with welding done theres likely to be something coming up

I realise that this is all a matter of personal preference and taste, but I can't stand de-seamed minis myself. I dislike the look of those minis where the deseaming has been limited to just the bumper lips, but where it has been extended to the entire car is even worse. :X

Far from improving the character and appearance of a classic mini, I think that it ruins the lines and contours of the car and completely detracts from the cars appeal. I'm not sure why you want to make to make a classic mini look more modern either, as it's classic styling is one of the main things that sets it apart from modern cars in the first place.

But as I said before, it's all a matter of taste I suppose..... (or lack of it!!)

I agree...it's completely a matter of taste. I was just so stunned how much it changed its appearance. To me, it is just gorgeous. I can see your side in that if it doesn't have the seams, it's not a Mini.
But to my eyes, this is what the car should have evolved into.

Man, stripping the entire interior, reinforcing the area, doing it 6 inches at a time, grinding down, filling the welds and painting. If had started with stripped shell or one that I was going to strip I might really consider this but my Mini is 99.5% done.

If it's done well, it can look great - I thought about it when i was 16 and had one in bits in the shed, I think it makes the car look much more modern, however I definintely wouldn't do it now! also a full deseam wouldn't be good for driving in the rain (which as i'm in scotland is daily!!)
