It is wrong, but unlikely to be UNC, far more likely to be M8. Under no circumstances try to retap it, as that will leave it hopelessly weak. You could try M8 bolts but make sure that they are marked 8.8, not an inferior grade.

Get stainless steel M8, 8.8 or only galvanised bolts

So just made it back from the store, turns out they are in fact the M8 threads, now just gotta order some hardened bolts instead of the cheapo's they had in stock.

I wish they would have advertised when you buy the panel it may not have the right threaded nut installed

I think you are talking about mine, From post #82

http://www.theminifo...-rebuild/page-6

Thanks!  That's the one I was thinking of.  Did everything work out alright, still holding good?

Thats alright, I still haven't had the subframe back on, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I may just go with new bolts, I don't want to buy a set of taps just to do this.  I do like the idea of just one block with threads in it.

078dave, please do not give dangerous advice. The issue of stainless bolts has come up here many times, and they are known not to be safe, except in places which are purely cosmetic.

I am not given dangerous advise, what happens when the galvanised material rusts off and the salt from the roads attacks it

2nd Tiger 99,  Stainless Steel bolts for load bearing/high stress not a good combo.  I'm going to replace most bolts/nut in high rust/stress areas with Chromoly from ARP, expensive but good quality
