of areas without carbon on, also the head on the same cylinder had areas without
carbon aswell, looks like the piston has been hitting the head.
after further investigation found that no3 piston has some play in it, and does not
travel in sequence with no2 piston, either the little or big end bearing has colapsed
or possibly the crank jurnals gone...
heres a vid, now watch carefully.... no2 & 3 cylinder

Well the head be alright after taking a pounding from the piston?
looks fine,not marked or dented, took it easy when it started knocking..

Obviously not good, But it hasn’t affected the sealing ring for the headgasket, so should be fine.

You say that but if you look at the picture of the head it does look like there has been an amount of blow between the cylindersWell the head be alright after taking a pounding from the piston?
looks fine,not marked or dented, took it easy when it started knocking..
Obviously not good, But it hasn’t affected the sealing ring for the headgasket, so should be fine.

Or might getaway with a very light skim, but either way I wouldn’t be throwing it onto the scrap pile just yet.

well split the block today and found this
the big end shell on no3 rod have disintergrated, there is nothing left just swarf on the
sump plug magnet......
Did you take the cap off?
Maybe it could be repaired with a crank grind....maybe a new rod and new bearings?
not re-fitting it.
