ps , why didn't you say hi or wasn't I around....

I was in two minds whether to put it in the custom class, but when I went over I saw one chap
cleaning the tread on his tyres and shining them up, a bit extreme in my opinion as I think
that type of stuff detracts from the work put into customising a car.. plus I don't class a
domino kit or a wappy paint scheme (dayglo coloured interior) as real customising.
But that's just me i suppose...

Malvern, :) thats only 3 days after my b/day :) more to spend on the 89 project, thats of course if i haven't spent it on somthing else a few nights before :)

Poor old Ratty, his head gasket has gone!!!!!!!! Got steam coming out the oil
filler cap, the exhaust, and the rad vent pipe !!to double check I removed the
fan belt and ran the engine and got bubbling in the rad caused buy exhaust
gas. so I will be replaceing the head gasket over the weekend (cheapest option)
and hopefully this might be the cause of the crank pressure aswell, but i'm not
getting my hopes up too much... If it doesn't work i'll be putting the original
1000 motor in until I sort out the GT motor...

Make sure you dont get one of the dodgy BK450 's made in Belgium. :D

Yes, he has a doner 1275 that he is turbocharging.

I popped into MED this afto to get a copper head gasket, they said
they hadn't any and won't be getting any untill the end of October :)
they said most of the major retailers are out of stock .....and that they
had a lot of engine waiting to be built up but can,t be due to Gasket shortage.

Anyway had to put up with a standard gasket set from the local garage :angel:

I took the head off this afternoon and found the center cylinders had
water in them :P , The head gasket had gone at the center water Jacket.

Will fit new valve stem seals and de-coke, quite surprised at the amount of
coking up considering it's only done about 1200mls :errr:

While I was at MED I mentioned about the sump pressure and they said it may be
the pressure release valve faulty, so I'll swop it with the one off the 1000 motor.

Had a look at the 1000 with regard to fitting it in Ratty but it is an A+ and
I can't find the Dizzy so I can't put it in..

Ohh well Happy days LOL.......

You can be happy it didn't blow up your radiator... (The cap should have blown first. But I've seem a headgasket failure blow up a rad like a balloon)



I just finished reading the whole epic. Great read. Like a good book you can't put down.

You did a FANTASTIC job! Congrats!
I'm kind of new here. We used to own a 85 Ritz when we lived in Holland.
We were heartbroken when we had to leave it behind when we moved to Canada. Bought a 1993 1.3i from Japan about 2 months ago. SOOO happy to be owning a mini again.

I'm going to have to do some rust-repairs on it and I hope I don't find the nightmare you encountered!

Hats off for sticking with it and cheers for not letting it go to the scrapyard.

A mini saved is a smile saved :))

(it's mindblowing how many people point and smile when they see us driving down the road. And ours is all original. It helps that there are maybe 8 minis in the city I live in, with 200'000 people, that;s a pretty low count. Pretty rare to see a mini here)

That looks like its been gone for a little while.


Standard one should be more than up too the job realy, mine is standard in my 1380 and is going fine after 2500 miles or so.


I'm kind of new here. We used to own a 85 Ritz when we lived in Holland.
