Cables on top of the clutch housing may have been attached to the fresh air heater on the inner wing that is not there anymore?

is that the correct colour fuel gauge for a pre 62/63, the early ones were white/magnolia colour?

Yes that is the correct colour. Only the early minis were magnolia. All Coopers were black. Incidentally that is the correct early original speedo without tenths.

I've just realisled that the missing part from the clutch housing is the solenoid. The battery cable and starter motor cable bolt onto it. I can see no evidence of the fresh air heater assembly. The snail blower would have been where the servo (not originally fitted) is now and there would have been a flap type assembly bolted to the front panel.

Very original indeed, down to the master cylinders.

Off to bingley at end of month see if i can see some cooper 997s and have a chat.

You might get lucky, but they really are rare. As said above cooper register might be a place to look and for more information, but please keep this thread going.

I never knew about the cylinder head numbers, cheers. And are the brakes 7'' lockheed variety?

Good luck :-)

That radiator is probably beyond repairing. It is unusual to see one gone like that.

They can be picked up from time to time at autojumbles and the like. It is an early squre topped header tank, sometimes labeled 'Coventry'. They were fitted to all minis upto around '63 or so.

The discs look like the 7'' ones. I can't tell if that is the very early caliper or the later type-both were fitted to 997s. The earlier type had smaller pads that did not have holes for the pins.
