Over the past week I have had a few people stop at my house and ramdomly enquire about my mini....as nice as this is it struck me a little odd......call me suspicious if you like :ermm:

It made me think that I should perhaps invest in a steering lock and I wonder if anyone would like to recomend a good one as there are various models out there. Which is best at slowing the crooks down? Any thoughts would be gratefully received :)

Battery isolator is a good idea - not just for security.

Any type of crook lock is going to be primarily a visual deterrent, so in that respect, they're all much of a much.

Edit: Also you could wire in a little flashing LED to the dashboard and/or an alarm. Personally I would just go for the LED. Home fit alarms tend to be pretty redundant in reality.

Personally i would say have a removable steering wheel but crooks will steal the car if they really want it

i dont bother with a crook lock on mine.

instead i went and bought a quick release steering wheel boss, when i park the car i take the wheel with me.

its a bit more expensive but you cant drive a car with no steering wheel.

thanks for the advice guys, I like the flashing LED idea. Not so sure about taking the wheel with me everytime I leave the car lol, unless I bought a massive handbag I may get some odd looks in the supermarket etc O_O

A bin lid type that covers the whole wheel, locked with a disc type padlock, paid about £45 for it from local motorist shop, bulky to store tho. Never had anything stolen what its been on, but that means very little.

Ive seen videos where well trained theifs take a steering lock bar thingy off in seconds, they dont stop much really but i would personally fit a couple of switches hidden away to cut battery, ignition fuelpump that sorta thing, and some way where its very difficult to tow, lift away or something that will make alot of noise if moved. :)

Also the led kit looks like a good idea, dead cheap from internet or maplins too :)

When mine was nicked they just dragged it to quiet location where they could get to work on it.
Now it has an alarm with a knock sensor so any movement sets it off

Not much I know, but I leave it in gear with the handbrake on, so if they did cut the handbrake cable it would take them longer to try and get it out of gear if they wanted to move it.

i have the disklok mentioned above on mine very sturdy and heavy, when driving mine lives behind passenger seat in the bag it came with, I am sure some can get off quick but for the oppourtunist looks good. Also have an alarm/immobiliser to.

Got mine from below dont seem to get a bag with it now.
