Well as the topic title states this is going to be a build log of my 998 turbo build :D

Ill start with my mini, its a 1991 Mini City E.
I bought it at the age of 14. and have been working on it every chance i get. (im now 17).

(I like pictures if you havent notied by now :shifty:)

Anyway less of the car and let get down to the engine :D

Ive never rebuilt an engine before so any input will be verryy helfull. im go to be doing all the work my self and will be keeping the build as low cost as i can due to having very low funds.

So far ive removed the old head and everything else that and be removed with out a flywheel puller. (sorry no pictures as it was dark) so ive ordered a flywheel puller tonight so i can get some real work done today =] oh and ive strip stripped my new head to.

So this is the planed spec so far: (helpfull input on this welcome)

988 block pocketed.
1275 head from a metro turbo. (got)
Dished pistons 6cc dish, to replace the flat tops in it (got)
MG metro cam (got)
Metro T3 turbo (got)
Metro turbo Carb and manifold (got)
Electronic dizzy (got)
I'll be runing an intercool
dump valve + boost control
And maybe an ultra light flywheel if ive got funds at the time lol.

And thats thats all i can think of at the moment. so just some pictures of what ive bought up to now.

nice work luke and a lovely spray job on the car, liking the MK1 look aswell, been following your thread on missiles website mate (I'm mini30thphil on missiles)

If funds allow a U/L flywheel would be nice

check out my build thread for ideas, its a pretty similar spec bar the turbo, will be interested to see how well the turbo goes, if you have much success I may copy you :proud:

how did you respray.

Thanks :D

i did the welding/body work my self and as for the respray the mini when for a trip up the road to my mates garage for paint(because my compressor is cr*p) and id never done any spraying before, my mate showed my the ropes and i ended up doing a 50% of the spraying :D

I havent yet had it on the rollers yet Luke to be honest, i was hoping with all the mods Ive done (and the good deal of head porting I did) to be at least 65/70 bhp at the flywheel. Factor a turbo into that aswell and I think pushing 90/100 bhp is definately possible in a 998

The MOT is due next week so I'm going to get a new MOT then take it to the RR in Wrexham way

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the turbo equipment, their have been a few on ebay/classifieds recently and I was a bit put off as they were going for around £250/300, I think a turbo may be a year or two away for me, will have to save up first!

On the plus side, my engine is running really sweet, I have managed to get it set up pretty darn good (if I say so myself), shes got no flat spots/bogging and pulls like a train over 1500 rpm with the 276 Kent, and the noise, ooohh the noise is sexual!

Yes i know the T3 is alittle big,
But i plan on building a 1293 at some point and spwaping the turbo and bits over.

and anyways for now when the turbo kicks in it should put a smile on my face! :D

I don't think that's an mg metro cam mate,
Looks like a standard 1275 to me,
Has it got any markings on it?
