one of my mates has just bought one, and i have to admit im super jealous!

i have been looking on ebay, autotradre doesnt even list reliant! but i think it may well be my next purchase?

they are so cheap when they dont have mot, but as soon as they are on the road, they seem to go for a fortune! so im looking at buying a running, non mot'd one get it on the road, and have some cheap fun in it.

so has anyone else had one?

are there any common problems? (apart from the bodywork being terrible for corrosion, fnarf fnarf lol)

i want i want i want!

I've never had one, but I don't think a 3 wheeler would last long with me, lol!

I drove a Bond Bug once. It was blooming dangerous! Never again. Unsafe at any speed above about 30 mph. Never driven a Reliant 3-wheeler though.
It's strange how the Reliant Company could produce those 3-wheelers and then make super performance cars like the Sabre 6, the Scimitar and do all the body moulding and final assembly of the Ford RS200 Group B car. Pity they went 'down the tubes'.
Always liked the Scimitar Coupe which preceded the GTE. I knew the guy who did the styling (Peter Bailey of Ogle design) and he had a Coupe with a big V8 engine which was some sort of development prototype.

Just watched a police chase on Sky 3/Pick TV, whatever its now known as - they were chasing a Robin! I couldnt believe how fast it was, had wide rear wheels that looked like wellers, was real low and the cops nearly lost it 3 times, twice round corners :D Dont know what happened to it, but it was very cool

i wouldnt mind having a go in a robin thats not very good condition and its been rolled a few times, reason being that i would probably roll it pretty quick, theres a robin near me just sitting outside a business and its been there for as long as i can remember, waiting for some crazy fool to fall in love and liberate it from its grassy prison :)

Dont even think about it ! Had supervan 111 (think delboy but in blue ) could drive one on my bike license (long time ago )frightening to drive in the wind , terrible in the snow , did not even keep me dry because was always looking thru a letterbox sized bonnet trying to get it to run. Also rusty chassis , front swing arm cracking, king pin etc ect. Eventually passed car test and bought a Morris Marina 1275cc of course !

I had one as my first car due to the bike license thing. I sprayed it black with flames down the side. Can't remember what I was on back in the 70's but must have been good!

Here's a good trivia question:

What have the Reliant Scimitar, the Bond Bug and a beautiful 1960's special GRP-bodied Mini Cooper in common?

Ans.: They were all styled by the same company, Ogle Design Limited of Letchworth. The Mini was the Ogle SX1000 and David Ogle was killed when he crashed one on the A1.

I had a Reliant Regal circa 1973 in a rather fetching maroon colour. As others have said, you could drive it on a full bike license. I used it to drive to college during winter saving me freezing my nuts off on my motorbike.

It was an awful thing to drive, very nervous cornering and it was always breaking down. Had some fun with my mates in the centre of Oxford in a fully loaded 3 wheeler!!

:-)
