as title says whats the best value for money and best stopping power brake discs on the market at the moment so many to choose from not sure which ones to get any info would be great thanks i have a mini mayfair 1988

Vented or non vented? What size?
And to be perfectly honest with as small as mini discs are, youre best off going for the ones which arent drilled/dimpled and grooved to keep the surface area up.
Just buy some standard ones, 4 pot calipers don't really make all that much difference unless saving weight buying alloy ones, its the brake pads I spend money on.

So, if running 10's keep to 7.5" discs, and 12's and above go with 8.4" solid or 8.4" vented metro setup. I'm using mintex m1144 pads in my minispares 2 pot calipers and solid non vented discs, and the braking on it is far better than the 8.4" discs i had previously. So personally i think its down to what pads you use!

But if you want something that looks the part as a standard replacement, then these might be the best bet! http://www.minispare...id=35071&title=

I agree with the above, drilled and grooved discs are great for preventing brake fade, but they do also reduce the overall braking surface area of the disc. On balance when is brake fade ever likely to be an issue on most road going minis realistically (unless it's running with drums all round of course). Unless you are running a track car or a monster machine that needs some serious braking, then I'd agree that standard discs with uprated pads are probably a better investment.

Go for solid discs, refurb calipers and brake cylinders, and use quality pads. EBC (black or green stuff) are great for road use.

Green stuff pads are utter turd, With them you get nothing when you brake, then more nothing. Black stuff arent bad as you get something, but by far the best ive used are the m1144 pads, They don't lock up unless you proper stamp on the pedal, but stop you very abruptly, which is exactly what you want!

whats the differences between vented and non vented ? size 8.4 i was going to for grooved and dimpled discs maybe not now

Vented are the metro setup, if you look at the disc its hollow in the middle, thats the easiest way of saying it, and the disc is much thicker than normal.
You'll most likely have non vented 8.4's fitted.

Rich, the Mintex M1144 pads are stated not for highway use to cover mintex's own backside as theyre race compound pads, but you'll find a lot of people do fit them anyway, Theyre about £45 a set if i remember rightly, but they are in my opinion far far better than the standard pads, and the EBC pads.

Lol, minisport don't half talk out their backside sometimes. Like i said, if you want it to look a bit nicer then go drilled and grooved, but more surface area on a small disc is what you want for better braking.

I have a set of Mini sport 4 pot calipers on 7.5 discs.

I have used both mintex and EBC both on the road and the track, the EBC ones are totally rubbish for a mini. On a track you have nothing at all untill it locks up, the mintex 1144 are top draw stuff work fantastic and never have any trouble with them on the track. I have also found that you get a real mixed bag with EBC, as in the pads never seem to be the same quality (that may just be a mind thing though). Never bothered with drilled disc's, dont think you need them on a mini unless you want them for the looks, although cross drilled disc's will wear out the pads a lot quicker than standard disc's.
Guess works, if you have any mintex 1144 left let me know how much they are and ill take a few sets off your hands if your selling.

I have a set of Mini sport 4 pot calipers on 7.5 discs.

They are for standard mini 8.4 calipers... so sorry will not fit minisport 4 pots, which will need for reference modified Metro pads ( need to chop a corner off ), so don't be conned into thinking they are special pads by any retailers.
