Good Evening all, Ive managed to get a little time together over the Christmas period and picked up where I left off 2 years ago with my project.

Now I need your help to answer some qustions and hopefully avoid me spending money twice.

Im building my mini for road use until I can can afford the bike engine.

1. Shock absorber top brackets.
Is there a big difference between the competition spec mounts over the standard and is it worth modifying the originals to a similar spec?

2. What is the thread pattern for the bolts holding the above brackets to the car as Ive remade one set of the fixings as the original studs snapped. Ive tapped the new set to M8 (if i remember correctly)
but need new bolts for the old.

3. Can I buy a full set of the correct length bolts for the front subframe rear mounting brackets and while Im there is there a noticable benefit from the upgrade to poly or solid mounts? Ive already got various poly bushes to go into the front arms etc.

Thank you.

Kev.

Hello mate, ill try and help where i can!
If its just a road car, stick with standard damper mounts, the competition ones if i remember rightly just have a piece of sheet welded over the top of the mount, OR have the damper mount higher up, for extremely lowered cars.
I would personally reccomend solid or poly mounting the subframe over the standard rubber mounts, it reduces a lot of the flex when steering, and provides a more direct response, the only downside is a little more vibration. I fitted the metal mounts to mine, it was far far better to drive afterwards!
