RIP 1987 Mayfair :sad:

Ok - my new mini is hopefully coming in the next couple of weeks so i need to clear the garage for the old girl. Problem is i have a mayfair shell sitting there, i doubt i'd sell it because its too rough so the basic plan is to cut the front of and make a nice trailer! (Will be a sad moment but at least it going to good use rather than being cubed)
With it only being a trailer i don't mind making plates up and using a bit of filler rather than replacing full panels so it shouldn't cost me much and will give me a lot of welding practice before i start on my new mini. Have printed off some instructions from the net and am gonna source out some box section so I can strengthen it ready to cut it :)
Will probably start this week so will post some pics and if it works out will hopefully own the first trailer on the forum! :grin:

Wahoo! :) Make sure to take pics and write stuff, yeh? :)

Then I can copy you and make sure not to make any mistakes that you happen to make :)

Except mine will be made out of a van or something... Need to carry bikes in it

I recon you should cube it and put it in your front room as a coffee table or something! Then you'll never forget the beauty!

Cheers minicooperman :cool: but its a bit pricey and don't want to get too many minis because i'll never have time to drive them!!

Removed the front subframe tonight as well as a few other bits, have also ordered a 25ft length of box section to make some strengthening ready to start cutting. The subframe and suspension bits is something else i'll be selling as long as i don't need it for my new car - pm me if you're interested.
I'll keep you posted....

Nice one cowboy! Yeah the box is pretty heavy, its only 20mm but its got a pretty thick wall. I gonna try lightening a lot of the trailer, might cut out the battery box and remove all the brake assemblys if i can get away with it.
Cut it up at the weekend, hopefully the pics will work;

..Or maybe not, will post them when I can...

The first cut in the floor..
This is just a rough cut for now. I also cut the front of the floor so I could shorten the mini to get it on the trolley. This was fine till i ran out of cutting disks and had to finish off with a hacksaw and a chisel!!
