I work as a manufacturing engineer for a company that designs and manufactures insulation for aerospace so it does have some influence but not a lot. I don't get these parts free or anything.

Mini93: like I said, its MK1. Give me a break will ya!! Haha, hopefully this will be similar spec to yours. I have all these ideas I my head but you seem to be getting round to doing them first!!

Really nice project you've got here. One point I would make is to avoid using the wilwood bias valve you put a photo up earlier in the build. I know someone over on the 205gti drivers forum who had one fail on him on track which led to him crashing and almost writing off his car. He's since moved onto a Tilton unit and hasn't experienced any problems.

The Tilton bias valve does however come in at around £100 so double what you probably paid for the Wilwood one. Another unit which comes highly recommended is from AP Racing although that's even more expensive at around £150. Although in the grand scheme of things an extra 50 or 100 pounds isn't a lot to spend to reduce any risk of wrecking your car.

KaneH. That is very interesting. I assumed that Wilwood would have been a safe bet in terms of braking components. I'll reconsider the options. I won't be skimping on brakes that's for sure.

I had thought the very same although after searching for an alternative means of rear brake compensator for my peugeot (the original in-line compensators are not made anymore) I found that some people have had bad experiences. I've managed to find an 'as new' tilton unit for £40 posted from another forum so may be worth chucking up a wanted add on here or any other forums you may be a part of as that may be a cheaper option if you're on a budget.

Would be an absolute nightmare if you were to spend all the time and effort getting your car up to scratch only to lose the back end on a corner due to something so minute.

Not much has happened in the past year or so, I am working on a few things in the background but if I'm honest it's not a lot. It's a pain having this the other end of the country. Anyway I have decided on a colour when it finally gets to the spraying stage. Its a rover colour but might not be to everybody's taste. I've done the cam cover to suit:

So over the August Bank Holiday I embarked upon a 420mile round trip in a rented van:

The mini now lives in a small workshop 15 miles from my house so work should be a lot more frequent that before. My work are also having a massive 5S exercise and are throwing out a load of stuff which I've bagged so lots tools and rejuvenated enthusiasm.

Theres a lot of work still to be done though.

Been chipping away at the new subframe build. I've cut up an old subframe that has seen better days but the rust and old tube sections have been replaced.

Clearance for the upper arm is tight:

Pulley clearance:

Bulkhead jig:

Basic shape:

Checking manifold clearances but the manifold sits lower than the table so I couldn't bolt it up to the head but theres enough clearance regardless.

Made some gussets:

Got mounts on the frame nearly sorted, just waiting for a drill bit because the mounts are an imperial diameter that I don't have.
